Background and aspirations for ASAHP

I am delighted to present my self-nomination to continue serving as a member of the Board of Directors of ASAHP. I hold an M.H.A. (1995) in Health Administration from Saint Louis University and a Ph.D. (1999) in Health Services Research with a minor in Economics from the School of Public Health and John Cook School of Business at Saint Louis University. My primary research interests encompass Burden of Disease and Chronic Care Management Research, Access and Utilization Studies, and Comparative International Studies. Over the past seventeen years, I have achieved significant scholarly research milestones, including securing over $1.6 million in funded research projects, publishing 42 refereed journal articles, 4 refereed book chapters, 35 refereed proceeding publications, 4 refereed abstracts, and 4 professional/other journal articles.

In addition to my distinguished record in teaching and research, I bring over 15 years of robust administrative experience, having served as Department Chair, Associate Dean, Dean, and Vice-President for Academic Affairs across institutions ranging from a small liberal arts college (King’s College) to a Carnegie high research-activity university (Duquesne University). As an esteemed leader and internationally recognized scholar in healthcare management and health services research, I am enthusiastic and well-equipped to continue contributing to ASAHP’s mission of advancing health professions education and discovery through interprofessional collaboration, leadership, excellence, and innovation.

I have had the privilege of serving on the ASAHP Board since October 2021. During this tenure, I have acted as the Board Champion for the ASAHP Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, actively participated in the ASAHP Research, Discovery, and Innovation Committee, and contributed to the ASAHP International Task Force. Additionally, I was a member of the Special Task Force convened by CHFNS International, Inc. and ASAHP to develop a formal certification program for global rehabilitation workers, and served on the 2023 ASAHP Annual Conference Planning Committee. Beyond ASAHP, I maintain active memberships in the AUPHA Online Program Directors Faculty Forum and AUPHA Finance, Economics, and Insurance Faculty Forum. At Duquesne University, I serve as a member of two Task Forces: Clinical Education and Health and Safety.

I would be honored to continue sharing my unique experiences and significant accomplishments as a higher education leader with fellow ASAHP board members, furthering the organization’s commitment to: (a) promoting innovation in academic/clinical education program development, (b) fostering creative approaches to interprofessional education and research collaborations, and (c) modeling excellence and best practices in recruiting and retaining diverse faculty, staff, and students.

I believe my entrepreneurial, visionary, and consensus-building leadership style will inspire other board members. Moreover, my proven ability to forge strong relationships between academic institutions and industry partners, higher education councils, and governmental and non-profit agencies, both nationally and globally, can offer valuable insights to the ASAHP Board.

With my established track record in academic program development, interprofessional education and research, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, I look forward to providing significant insights and concrete strategies to advance ASAHP's mission as a board member. Thank you in advance for considering my candidacy.
