Mission and Vision

The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is a national professional organization of 120 universities and employers focused on critical issues affecting allied health education.

Our mission is to improve health through excellence in education, interprofessional  collaboration, leadership, research, and advocacy. ASAHP’s vision is to be a leading interprofessional voice for better health and health care.

Benefits of Membership

Networking: Increase personal, professional, and institutional networks with leaders in health professions education and practice. This could include your students and faculty as well.

Professional Development: Participate in highly advanced professional development activities with keynote speakers through the Association's sponsored and co-sponsored conferences and summits in locations across the United States and world.

Research and Development: Faculty, students and practitioners can be involved with timely research, development, and action-oriented projects that have an impact on allied health education, research, and service delivery.

Institutional Profile Survey: Contribute data and benefit from a comprehensive yearly statistical profile of member institutions which includes faculty profiles and salary data.

Leadership Development Program: Designed to educate new deans, associate/assistant deans, and department chairpersons.  Advanced leadership opportunities are also available.

Representation on the Federal Level: Benefit from the direct access for representation on national task forces, committees, and advisory commissions. 

Representation in Health Organizations: Serve on various accrediting bodies and hold representative membership in groups such as the Interprofessional Education Collaborative and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education.

Publications: Receive complimentary subscriptions to the Association's monthly newsletter TRENDS and its official scholarly publication, the Journal of Allied Health. Faculty have the opportunity to serve as manuscript reviewers. Institutional and Agency members also receive the biweekly ASAHP UPDATE and “The Week in Review” electronically.

Visibility: Showcase institutions, programs, faculty members and clinical affiliates. Take advantage of lower rates in the Journal of Allied Health for classified and display advertisements. Serve as a sponsor for the annual conference. Advertise Faculty, administrative, and clerical position openings on the website.

Reduced Registration Fees: Attend ASAHP conferences and other meetings at a significantly lower rate.

Background Checks: As a result of a partnership with the firm of CertifiedBackground.com, which provides criminal and immunization background checks, ASAHP members are entitled to receive discounts, participate in webinars, and have students in member institutions obtain scholarships in conjunction with the Association’s Scholarship of Excellence Program.

An Allied Health Centralized Application Service (AHCAS) is under development as an online admissions application process for students in respiratory care; radiologic and imaging sciences; and clinical/medical laboratory science.

Members can be considered for receipt of the following honors each year in a ceremony at the Annual Conference: Darrell C. Mase Presidential Citation, Cultural Pluralism Award, Distinguished Service and Achievement Award, Outstanding Member Award, Legacy of Excellence Award, Thomas Elwood Award, J. Warren Perry Award, Award for Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care, and the election of ASAHP Fellows.

Types of Membership

Institutional Members
Any institution of higher education or health care institution which offers a degree or certificate in one or more allied health professions, as well as employers utilizing workers from allied health professions, are eligible for Institutional Membership. Through its representative, an Institutional Member has voting privileges and the opportunity to be represented on ASAHP’s Board of Directors. Institutional Representatives are encouraged to participate in all facets of ASAHP’s committee structure, including those committees which deal with issues of governance. Particular to this category of membership is the National Office Update, an ASAHP publication which contains information on legislative activities and funding opportunities as well as policy and position papers.

Affiliate Members
An organization, association, community college, or agency with an interest in the mission and purposes of the Association, but which does not qualify as an Institutional Member is invited to cultivate a liaison relationship with ASAHP as an Agency Affiliate. Through its representative, an Agency Affiliate may participate in non-governance committees, as well as create and participate in Interest Sections of ASAHP. Like Institutional Members, Agency Affiliates receive National Office Update.


ASAHP’s mission is advanced to a significant degree by a wide range of activities undertaken by several committees and task forces. These groups assist in generating position papers, conducting conferences and symposia, providing leadership development, and working to advance interprofessional clinical and international health curricula.

Examples are:

Enhance network formation through formal meetings and exchanges of information.

Establish international linkages by planning and participating in needs based activities.

Formulate strategies to advance IPP and clinical education.

Sponsor workshops at ASAHP annual conferences and examine innovative ways to advance research and research productivity by faculty.

Work with other organizations to enhance the accreditation process.
