Position Details

The Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance (HSHP) in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa invites applications for a non-tenure-track, full-time position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, beginning in August 2024. This is a continuing non-tenure track position with opportunities for promotion.

Position Description

The Allied Health program, within the Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance, is seeking a dedicated colleague with a terminal degree in Allied Health, Exercise Science, or a related field to teach courses within the Allied Health program. Allied Health is one of the largest majors within the university. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate allied health and health sciences courses to support students pursuing professional graduate programs. These allied health-related courses may include but are not limited to, nutrition, personal and family health, medical terminology, human development across the lifespan, applied kinesiology, health science, and introduction to allied health.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about fostering a community of inquiry and inclusivity and who is committed to student success both inside the classroom and in practical settings.

Teaching: The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, a critical component for our teaching-centered, primarily undergraduate institution, through engaging teaching methods and strategies. Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm for fostering an inclusive and captivating learning environment for our diverse student population. The focus should be on promoting common learning goals across various subject areas within the allied health and health science field. The required teaching load is 27 contact hours per academic year.

Service & Student Involvement: The successful candidate will fully engage with the institution by providing and/or developing expertise that serves the broader needs of the institution as a requirement for promotion. Community and professional service are also valued contributions, particularly where relevant to the allied health discipline. The successful colleague will engage undergraduate students in rich experiential activities as a means of providing greater depth and opportunity to the educational experience at the university. Faculty members also advise students each semester, providing academic and career advice.

Qualifications: A terminal degree is preferred, but not required, although advanced ABD candidates will also be considered. Prior teaching and research experience with undergraduate students is preferred. A personal commitment to engaging undergraduate students is essential. Successful candidates will have strong pedagogical skills and effective communication.

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
