ASAHP has prepared a summary of the House Education and the Workforce Committee's markup of its Higher Education Act bill, the PROSPER Act. The purpose of the bill is to update the primary federal law governing colleges and universities, which last was reauthorized in 2008. The bill was approved by a 23 to 17 party line vote. The markup spanned nearly 14 hours and over 60 amendments were considered. Chairwoman Foxx (R-NC) stated that she would like to see the full House vote on the bill next year.
