Presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) favors adopting a single-payer health care system in the U.S. that would cover all individuals and all medically necessary services while eliminating cost sharing entirely. Coverage would include both acute and long-term care. An analysis of the plan’s impact on health spending was conducted at the Urban Institute.
