Program Background

The Interprofessional Committee (IPC) of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) developed the Interprofessional Innovation Grant (IIG) Program to provide support for interprofessional collaboration research among the ASAHP membership. The intent is to provide recipients a competitive edge in securing additional funding by supporting pilot projects and further developing grantsmanship skill sets. The intent of the IIG Program is that proposals submitted can be used to develop larger, more extensive interprofessional research projects that further engage faculty and ASAHP members in research endeavors.

The ASAHP Interprofessional Innovation Grant Program will provide funding for innovative, interprofessional projects that relate to the following themes including, but not limited to:

  • Curriculum Innovations in a Remote Environment

  • Alternative Clinical Experiences

  • Telehealth/Telework Therapies/Telework Therapies

  • Mental Health

  • Technology, Artificial Intelligence & Healthcare

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Health Care Education

  • Broader impacts of the Post  COVID-19 environment , including psychosocial, behavioral, and economic effects

  • Health equity/health disparities (Social Determinants of Health)

  • Healthcare workforce development

Projects with a focus on health professions represented at ASAHP member institutions are highly encouraged.

Strong applications may include collaboration across ASAHP member institutions/programs. 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for funding, projects must demonstrate the following:

  • Research has a direct connection to one of the thematic areas outlined above or a related theme.

  • The proposal has a clear timeline to be completed in 9 months.

  • Potential for future external funding.

  • The PI is representing an ASAHP member institution. Applicants may only be PI on one application and Co-PI on one application. Co-PIs may include faculty from other ASAHP institutions. 

  • PI assurance:  A statement from the PI that they have sufficient content knowledge, time and local support to execute the proposed project.

 

Award Information

We expect to make approximately 3 awards, up to $2,000 for 9-month project period.

Funds can be used for data gathering, equipment and supplies, travel, poster and printing, publication, and consultant costs. Personnel costs can include research staff (students, technicians, etc.), however, salary for PI’s and Co-PI’s and other Co-Investigators is not permitted.

Budgets should include strong justification across all categories as projects will only be funded at the level deemed necessary to accomplish research goals in the 9-month project period. 

Post-Award Requirements

Awarded projects will be required to submit a progress report four months after funds are awarded as well as a final report by June 1, 2025. Templates will be provided.

Awardees will be required to present their work at the 2025 ASAHP Annual Conference.

How to Apply

The cover page, project narrative and budget/budget narrative must be submitted as a single PDF. CV’s should be submitted as a separate PDF. All documents should be submitted via online submission portal by 11:59pm on June 3, 2024.

 Font size must be 12 points or larger with 1-inch margins, double spaced.

A complete application will comprise of the following:

  • Cover page that includes the name(s) and institutions(s) of the PI, Co-PI, and Co-I(s), the title of the research project, and a brief project summary (200-word limit)

  • Project narrative that includes the following sections: Specific Aims, Research Methods, Potential Impact, Role of study personnel, Timeline, and Plans for future submissions to external sponsors in the project timeline. (3-page limit)

  • Budget Form  Grant Application Budget Form and Budget Narrative (1-page limit)

  • CV for all key personnel using the National Institutes of Health format found here: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms/biosketch.htm (2-page limit per investigator)

Review Criteria

All applications will be peer reviewed by the IP Scholarship Committee and recommendation forwarded to the Interprofessional Committee Chair who will notify applicants of the decision.

Applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Innovation and excellence

  • Interprofessional in nature

  • Strength of the research team

  • Clarity and efficiency of the budget

  • Ability to complete the project within the 9-month timeline

  • Ability to identify potential sources for external funding
